Join professional theatre artist and local intuitive citizen at large Ron Kennell at the Stratford Perth Museum who will share excerpts from his new play THE DEVIL’S IN THE DETAILS: THE WONDER OF VERA MCNICHOL commissioned by the Blyth Festival Theatre.

Ron also wants to hear your stories of Vera McNichol and tell you a little bit of what he is creating for a future look into the clairvoyant past. We know so many of you love Vera McNichol and have memories to share. Help Ron write the next act!

Vera McNichol

Vera McNichol was a renowned local clairvoyant, famously known as the Mystic of Millbank.

“It is estimated that 250,000 people from all over Canada and the United States came to visit Vera in order to get a glimpse of their futures. Vera did not have a telephone and she did not make appointments. Her visitors stood in line for a turn to get a reading. The readings took place in her kitchen and were done using two sets of playing cards from her large collection. One of the decks would show their past and the second was used to predict their future.”

Many of Vera’s writings, books, and a few of her personal items will be on display at the event.

Ron Kennell

A ten year veteran of the Stratford Festival, Ron Kennell comes by storytelling naturally. He has appeared on Star Trek, performed above the Arctic Circle, and toured with a production of Macbeth to Iran. An actor and writer, he lives in Stratford with his partner, 3 cats, and a legacy of stories at his fingertips. Ron’s grandfather, Walter Kennell, had a farm in North Easthope. His grandmother, Olive Kennell, visited the “charmer,” Vera McNichol, on multiple occasions including once for a nosebleed; once for her son’s insomnia; and once for something she would never speak about to anyone, but Vera. Ron’s past familial connections to Vera has inspired his first play and current work, The Devil is in the Details: the Wonder of Vera McNichol.

Jacob James

The event will also welcome Jacob James, actor and paranormal investigator who will be recording the event to later investigate paranormal activity. This will be done with the utmost respect to Mrs. McNichol. Results of the recording will be shared post-event

“I spent my twenties acting at The Stratford Festival but Investigating the paranormal was always my hobby, and over the last few years I’ve had the privilege of investigating the paranormal professionally on a Nova Scotia based tv series called Haunted on Eastlink. The creation of my YouTube channel Folder Five Paranormal has allowed me to investigate locations I’ve always had my eye on, and to share the experience with people who are eager to give it a try.”
