It is time to relax and craft with a traditional Japanese embroidery artform called Sashiko. Using 16th century techniques that were intended to strengthen fabric, workshop guests will create an art piece using the practices of running stitches. This method created a thick and absorbent clothing material for farmers and fishermen, however it evolved into a decorative accent for quilting, apparel, and textile arts. All materials for this project are provided to each participant.

Barb Hagarty began to actively engage with the history of creating fiber through the practice of tatting.  From here she transitioned to working with other historical forms of fiber creation such nalbinding, drop spindle spinning and sprang.  Her goal is to share knowledge of ancient techniques of fiber creation and create contemporary interest in these ancient practices.
