Volunteer night at the Museum Dec. 4

The Stratford Perth Museum could not even begin to operate without its many volunteers.

Volunteers are so critical to us that we have an active Volunteer Recruitment Program headed by our Volunteer Coordinator, Elizabeth Cooper. One small part of that program is hosting a event every December to recruit volunteers. This event serves to not only recognize and appreciate our volunteers but also to recruit community-minded people to tour the exhibits and to hear about the benefits and joys of volunteering at the Museum.

Realizing that several area organizations also rely heavily on volunteers, we decided to throw the net wide and invite other groups to the event. So, on December 4, 2019, the Stratford Perth Museum’s is hosting the first Stratford and Area Community Volunteer Recruitment Night.

Our partners include the Stratford General Hospital, Gallery Stratford, Friends of the Festival, Alzheimer’s Society of Perth County, United Way Perth Huron and Stratford Summer Music, as well as ourselves.

It’s on Wednesday, December 4, from 6:30 to 8 pm at the Stratford Perth Museum. “It is a chance to find out about is required of volunteers at these organizations, meet the recruitment officers and have a few refreshments, “ says Cooper. “Initial response has been so great we may be organizing a second such event in the spring.”

All ages are welcome!

Food writer Jane Sigal event at the museum

Food writer Jane Sigal at Stratford Perth Museum Thursday

At 3 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, Andrew Coppolino will sit down with Jane Sigal for a conversation on food and travel at the Stratford Perth Museum. It’s a free event open to all.

Jane Sigal (janesigal.com) is a returning Joseph Hoare Gastronomic Writer in Residence at the Stratford Chefs School. This is the first time SCS has ever had a writer in residence return for a second visit!

An author, journalist, editor, and recipe developer, Jane’s focus with the students this year will be on mining personal identity in the pursuit of meaning in food, in both the kitchen and on the page.

Her beautifully photographed cookbook, Bistronomy: Recipes from the Best New Paris Bistros, will be available for purchase.

Waterloo Region-based food commentator and food columnist Andrew Coppolino (andrewcoppolino.com) is an author and journalist, a former Stratford Chef instructor and a great friend to both Stratford Chefs School and farmers and chefs in Southwestern Ontario.

He is the author of Farm to Table, the book SCS published last year, in celebration of 35 years of teaching aspiring chefs.

I do hope this event will be fun and well attended! The museum is a lovely venue!
