A candidate who has graduated with a degree or diploma in the museum, heritage, history or culture fields is preferred.
The successful applicant will be part of a specific project at the Stratford Perth Museum that has two main objections.
1) to review and consolidate the museum’s collection through a spot inventory and deaccessioning plan, and
2) to update collection database records in preparation for eventual online access of the museum’s artefact collection, providing better public access to our collections and their related histories.
For the intern, the objectives of the projects will provide in-depth, hands-on experience in important everyday activities that are part of typical museum functioning, as well as experience in occasional but critical analysis of policies and processes that must be carried out periodically to ensure adherence to museum standards. The opportunity to be involved in these special projects (inventory and deaccessioning), will certainly enhance the intern’s skill set. In addition, the intern will gain confidence, expertise and skills as they assist with other museum activities such as exhibition development and visitor services.
